Ya’at’eeh! My name is Jonnie Alisha Woody. I am of the Salt people, born for the Bitter Water people. My maternal grandfather is of the Leaf people, my paternal grandfather is of the Red Running into the Water people. I am from Shiprock, New Mexico. I grew up on the Navajo reservation and I went to high school at Navajo Preparatory School in Farmington, NM.
From there I decided to go to college at New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology to pursue a degree in Biomedical Science. Currently I work at Dine College, a tribal college, as an Adult Educator and Success Coach. Also working at University of New Mexico as the EPSCOR Program coordinator to help Native American students k-12 in STEM. I am taking a gap year to prepare for my master’s degree. I am in the process of the application for Fall 2024. Overall, my goal is to go to medical school to become a pediatric oncologist. I want to help children and their families who suffer from childhood cancers in my community.
