A Multidimensional Community-Based Strategy for Preventing Underage Drinking (subcontract to Oregon Research Institute)

Joel W. Grube, PhD

Preventing drinking and drinking problems among youth is a major public health priority. This research will benefit youth and society as a whole by identifying the most effective methods for preventing underage alcohol use. The project is a model for how interventions can restructure the way, as a society, we promote health and prevent problem development.

It will pave the way for the next generation of research in which collaboration with state and local governments enables ongoing refinement of an intervention and its roll-out to other communities. The study will also contribute to our general knowledge about the factors that influence communities’ adoption, implementation, and maintenance of policy-oriented interventions targeting individuals’ psychological functioning.
