A partnership with Communities Upwards
We are pilot testing a program to help underserved California Arab American women and their families quit smoking and create smokefree homes. We are training and guiding women leaders to be knowledgeable about basic tobacco health science and prevention methods (capacity building/peer cohort); supporting their efforts to make changes in their own smoking behaviors and home smoking (cessation and prevention); helping them design ways to talk with family and community members about smoking and ways to prevent tobacco-related harms (peer-led brief intervention); and surveying the community to examine their awareness of project, and their experiences trying to make changes in smoking and smoke exposures (evaluation). This pilot study was funded by the University of California Office of the President’s Tobacco Related Disease Research Program.
